Modifying Processes Startup

Since the last XP patches, I have had a minor problem with Norton (NAV2004).
Some kind of additional delay has occurred, so Norton complains about not
being enabled - and then stops grumbling when the start-up routine catches
up and it is "enabled". The order of icons coming up seems to have changed -
so it appears that InCD, ZoneAlarm, Search & Destroy and nVidia utilities
gets preference over Norton (I guess I would complain too). Short of the old
"uninstall/re-install" what can I do?

ps Searches on KnowledgeBase were not fruitful (probably my vocabulary - you
would think it would offer a thesaurus - you said "rock", but we use
"stone" - oops, don't tell Google - they'll do it).

I would contact Symantec and check if there are new updates forthe NAV
tool available.

Actually I had fully updated NAV tool just days before (download, run &
reboot changing a number of things). Everything ran just fine until Security
Update. I think what I am looking at has something to do with the way that
the user account gets up to speed on log-on. I think NAV is sensitive about
this and (like a good nanny) complains. I see InCD initiate, ZoneAlarm
initiate, MS ASw start and others (icons popping on taskbar) and then I get
a "Complaint" pop-up from NAV which goes away in seconds when I see the NAV
icon appear. This makes me think that some new process may be slowing the
initiation of NAV longer than it is happy waiting. Not sure it should be
waiting (why InCD first?)...

Is there any kind of log which reports this?

Until I learn more, I'm going to try to get by on a CleanDisk, Chkdsk and
Defrag - tho that may not help much as I run them monthly (just about 12
days ago).

Ideas of terminology I can use in search is good too. I've tried "process"
and "processes" and "startup", but nothing seems on target.
