Will power psu like of 1000 watts damages the board that does not require much power ?//??//

Solution
No. Assuming adequate PSU capacity, the system will pull as only as much power as it needs from the PSU.

It's like plugging in a lamp with a 100 watt light bulb. It will pull just what it needs from the 15 amp (1800 watt) or 20 amp (2400 watt) house circuit.

WHat are you building that you think you need a 1 kw PSU?

In general no the motherboard will only get its required amount of power. Its possible tho a PSU can die and give an over volt killing the motherboard. When you buy a power supply make sure its got over voltage protection. There is also Short Circuit Protection which again protects your components. Lastly over current protection to keep the current to none damaging level.

I suggest getting a quality PSU with over voltage protection at the very least. Antec is the most reliable PSU on the market and has many fault protectors built into their PSU's. When looking at the detail specs always make sure there is a yes beside the over voltage protection. In features there should be OVP and SCP like in the link below.

There is also UVP and Overload Protection added to higher cost versions. See the details on this PSU.

Note that not all these are required for a reasonable level of protection but reasonable depends on components your trying to protect.
