Hey guys,

I have been looking into an ASRock 870 Extreme 3 MB:http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813157198&cm_re=asrock_extreme3-_-13-157-198-_-Product .

But, I plan on attempting to unlock the 4th dormant core on an AMD athlon II X3. I also plan on Overclocking the processor. Is ASRock an OK choice for overclocking or should I resort to a Gigabyte/Asus board. I previously had been looking into an Asus M4A87TD EVO, but I have wanted to keep the cost down.

Thanks in advance for the response!

Asus board are excellent overclockers and also quite expensive. But it doesn't mean Asrock is not a good choice. Go for that Asrock if you're tight on the budget.

I have this board for my MOD is progress. Same price as your ASRock but better features/reliability. I love this little board. Alot of OC features built in, and I have done some crazy stuff to it with a Phenom 2 965 just to see what I could push, and it's been solid as a rock.
I'm sure there are alot of other boards out there for what you need. Just giving you my opinion based solely on my experience with this board.
The coolest thing about this board is, you can use the onboard video in tandem with discrete video. I enabled it, set it to 128 meg and plugged in a monitor to it for browsing, leaving my discrete for games and other GPU intensive tasks.
Also think carefully about buying right now, Bulldozer is a few weeks away!
