Dear all,

I used my P5K only with XP x86 until now.
I'm trying to install WIN 7 (32 bit) on my computer but with no success
I looked at the BOIS and only have "IDE" option.
My Motherboard is ASUS P5K.

I tried to insert the supplied CD and change the compatibility mode to vista BUT with no success. the only O.S I can choose is NT/2000/95/ME.
When I put the CD in my laptop (WIN 7) I can change much more O.S such as XP/VISTA and more...

My question is :
Is there any update i can do to my M.B and have the option to install WIN 7 ?
If so - which driver should I download from here :
http://support.asus.com/download.aspx?SLanguage=en&p=1&s=22&m=P5K&os=&hashedid=yS3ZeqfUdCTCIFT2

What am i missing here ?

TNX A LOT !

It's not the MB.

If you have the "upgrade" version of the Windows 7 disc, you will need to do a clean install - format the HD, follow the prompts to do a full install, near the end you will need to provide both product keys from your old XP disc, and the one from the new "7" disc.
Obviously, your data will be destroyed during format, so backup everything and be ready to reinstall all your apps.
The only BIOS change you need make is to put the DVD drive first in the boot order.
Ensure your hardware meets minimum compatibility.

Thanks for your reply.
I don't have the "upgrade" version of the Windows 7 but a 7 Ultimate (legal).
right now i have noting on my HDD and actually ready to install.
A Windows XP (x86) is installed on my computer.
I did tried to install the 7 after formatting my drive and the installer wizard does not count over than 0% for too much time (and then I restart my computer and again...).
The only time I saw a 7 on my computer was when I forgot to format my drive and the 7 just installed as an another O.S and not as the only O.S.

Thank in advance, Tamir.

what do you mean; "as another OS"?
7 will create a 2nd partition and place itself there. It did what it was supposed to do.

right now i have noting on my HDD and actually ready to install.
A Windows XP (x86) is installed on my computer.
This contradicts, incorrect information makes it difficult to assist.

Make sure the DVD drive is set to 1st boot device.

Sorry for the mess I'll explain again:

- The DVD drive is the 1st boot device.
- I want to install a Windows 7 on my computer as the only OS. I don't want the computer to ask me which
OS to load at startup.

As is said, I want to FORMAT my hard-disk and install a FRESH Windows 7, when I try to do that- the installation stuck at 0% . Only way for me to install this 7 is as additional OS.

- This Windows 7 was installed on my 2nd PC and worked just fine so the problem not on my Windows 7...

Do I miss something ?

TNX, can you please explain how to do that ? "Clear the MB CMOS". Never done that before...

Thanks (again!) :)

Glad to :) It's easy!
This will clear the MB BIOS of it's previous settings.

Unplug the computer from the wall. Remove the battery with a small screwdriver.

At the bottom right of the motherboard will be a jumper (usually blue) on pins 1 & 2 on a section marked CLRTC. Remove it and place it on the 2 & 3 pins. Wait a half-hour and move it back to the 1 & 2 pins. Reinstall the battery. Plug the computer back in. Boot. Press the Del key to get into BIOS and check the settings - especially Boot Drive Order in your case.
If this does not make sense, look on page 2-24 (Page 48) of your manual.

Hey,

Did it but with no success...same issue, installation wizard shows 0%.
What can I do next ?

Maybe install the XP and Update my MB with the supplied CD ?
BTW - Im trying to install an Ultimate x86 version of the 7.

Thanks a lot for helping me here !
