So, I bought a brand new Alienware M17x-R2 about 2 weeks ago and I can't figure out how to get the "AMD display driver has stopped responding" error to stop popping up. This only happens when I'm just using the computer normally, but never in games. Every so often red dots will flash on screen then my driver will flicker and reset and it's annoying the crap out of me. I tried uninstalling the latest driver and installing 10.3 and that didn't work.
I don't have ATI Overdrive (I can't even find it) so that fix I saw on this forum for changing the profile can't be done. I've looked all over the internet for 2 weeks and can't find a single solution. I know it has something to do with Windows 7 64-bit and the driver because my GPU is good. I'll list my specs below:
Intel i5 540m 2.53 GHz
ATI RADEON Mobility HD 5870
4 GB RAM
Windows 7 64-bit
If you need any additional info I'll provide it.
