Hi,

After finished destroy the power core, and then the game
will change to another map, the screen will display the
IP address and the map name of the server, then I wait a long
time and get a "Connection failed" message.
Then I go back to main menu and then reconnect to the server
again. Everytime when finish one round of the game, I need
to go back and go in again. It very time comsume.

Any people have this problem ?
I use ADSL for the network connection. And I already update
the patch to 3236

Please advise.

Do you have this on one server? Is it yours? Do you have this on every
server?

Not me.

Me too.

I use 3206 or something like that.

When you see that the server is nearly full then do expect failed
connections - which basically means someone has sneaked in before you and
there aren't any free places left.

From observations, getting the 'loading...' messenger doesn't necessarily
mean that the place is reserved for you. People with faster PCs (not
necessarily connection speed) or have already loaded the map in memory
usually get in first! :D

Remember until your map has fully loaded, the place on the server is still
available for others to join!

I don't think that would be Derek's problem since, if I understand him
correctly, he's already connected to the server. I have also had
long hangs when trying to connect to a nearly full server, but I've
never had a hung connection or "connection failed" just from changing
to a different map on the same server.

Sorry Derek, but I don't have a clue. When you see the screen with
the IP address, I'm pretty sure it shows the map name too. Is it
switching to a map you already have, or is it trying to send you a new
custom map?

Weird. I never had that. If you have this every time, on every server,
it's probably a configuration mistake on your computer. What OS are
you using?

Please, next time, think about the way you post. Many people don't
think about this and put their reply at the top of their post, quoting
all of the original post below it. Now take a look at this:

---------------------------------------------------------------------
> Why is top posting so hard to read?
> > > What is one of the most annoying responses on Usenet?
> > When they top post.
In the English speaking world we read left to right, top to bottom.
---------------------------------------------------------------------

If people do it the other way around, things will clear up instantly:

---------------------------------------------------------------------
> > > What is one of the most annoying responses on Usenet?
> > When they top post.
> Why is top posting so hard to read?
In the English speaking world we read left to right, top to bottom.
---------------------------------------------------------------------

The best response type is "in-line" posting, that is, remove all the
quoted text that does not apply to your response, adding your comments
in context underneath as you go.

The distributed nature of Usenet is causing that not everyone sees all
posts in a particular thread in the right order or or even at all. If
you make sure you put your reply in a top-to-bottom order, people will
be able to easily read through it from top to bottom.

Be sure to remove all excess quoted text though. There is nothing more
annoying than having to scroll down three pages of quoted text you
already read, just to read a two-lined reply ;-)

A more complete guide to posting to Usenet can be found at
http://www.netmeister.org/news/learn2quote.html

The relevant section on good posting form is here
http://www.netmeister.org/news/learn2quote2.html#ss2.3

I think I understand what's happening now. It used to happen to me. It
really does hang and you can't do anything. The only way is to minimise
UT2004 then force close it. But that was with the first patch.

What newsreader do you use anyway? :)

I use Outlook Express (OE) and I like, and have made a habit of, reading
posts one by one using the tree made by OE. It doesn't affect me at all
whether people top post or bottom post because I would usually ignore any
lines with ">".

By the way, I bottom post because I've been told to ;)

I use SLRN.

SLRN hides the posts I've already read. So if someone replies to a
post I read already, I only see the reply. In such a case, it's very
useful to have a few lines of text to remember me of the subject, and
to point out what exactly is being replied to.

> By the way, I bottom post because I've been told to ;)

I always reply in-line. It's a bit like bottom posting, but slightly
different. I start with my cursor at the top, and I read through the
post, removing text I don't directly need to reply to, and replying
exactly at the spot I'm replying to. I think this is the best way to
post: it contains the least amount of quoted text (just enough), and
you can still read the entire post from top to bottom.

I used to do this also: deleting and editing the post before replying.
