Crysis with a gts 250 1gb

New to the forum, nice to meet y'all
I recently upgraded to a pny gts 250 w/ 1gb of vram and was wondering what kind of performance i should expect from crysis. I currently run it @ 1440x900 w/ no aa or af at high settings (dx9) with the following command lines in my System.cfg file:
con_restricted=0
r_UsePOM=1
r_sunshafts=1
r_colorgrading=1
e_water_ocean_fft=1
q_Renderer=3

i only manage to get 20-30 fps walking around, and in more intense levels, such as "assault" i often see drops as low as 15 fps. Is this the best i can expect from this video card?

Other specs:
vista 64 bit
core 2 quad q8200
8 gb ram
latest gfx card drivers

More about crysis
  1. Sounds about right.

    Crysis is extremely... GPU intensive. There's another forum user complaining about 30fps at 1024x768 resolution on "Very High" with his ATI 5770 (which beats your GTS 250).

    I used to play Crysis with an 8800GTS 512MB (2 generations before the GTS 250, but same GPU chip basically), also at 1440x900.

    CPU Clock speed helps. I recall articles a couple years back about how being 3Ghz + helped with over all FPS.

    Here's the thread I was mentioning:

    What were you're settings with the 8800gts?
  3. Think I played it at Medium back then. It's been a while though. Truly have no idea what all the actual settings were. :(
  4. 1440x900 is kinda high, it runs like butter for me at 720p (1280x720) 40+fps in dx10

    low the res and keep in mind that ur 16:10

    What are your other settings at?
  6. i havent played in a while, but i think its medium, or high, and remember to set 3d performance to best performance in control panel
  7. i owned GTS250 and played at 1024*768. on very high setting my FPS on crysis hardly pass 30FPS. i think you should try the optimal setting in the game options first and see the performance before adjusting the setting more to your liking
  8. From my experience, the GTS 250 can manage Crysis at very high settings at 1280x1024 resolution at 20-30 fps on the less intensive missions.
