New system should i get x4 or x6 CPU

I'm looking to buy a new motherboard and cpu. I just bought 2x 2gb dual channel ddr2 800mhz RAM to add to my 2x 1gb dual channel ddr2 800mhz RAM so I want my next motherboard to be DDR2 for the memory standard and have the socket type support AM3.

For the processor should I get the AMD Athlon II X4 635 Propus 2.9GHz for $99 or should I get the AMD Phenom II X6 1055T Thuban 2.8GHz for $190. My computers use is mainly for gaming.

I also was wondering if using ddr2 800 with such a fast processor would hold me back? I notice no games say what type of ram is recommended they just say how much is recommended so i figure it must not be that major.

It depends on what you're doing. If it's gaming and general use, the x4. If it's video/photo editing then it's the x6

No using DDR2 ain't gonna hamper AM3 chips' performance so dun worry ^^

There is a couple but AM2+ = DDR2 DIMM slot AM3 = DDR3 TS is already on an AM2+/DDR2 platform

yes there is, but i heard they have problems so I'm going to stay away from them. you can find them on new egg.

I'm getting Am2, am2+,am3 mother board with only DDR2 though. This is the one I'm currently looking at http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131618 I want to stay with ASUS because my current board did me good.

I just thought of this would my Zalman CNPS9500A http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835118003&cm_re=zalman_cnps9500-_-35-118-003-_-Product am2 CPU cooler thats on my 6000+ right now work on the x4 overclocked to 3.4ghz? That would be great news if it would because I just bought it like 3 months ago.
