Changed DVD-Drive to Z & No Video is Displayed

My friend and I were trying to mount an image to a virtual drive, but changed his DVD-drive to Z then changed it back right away back to what it was originally, after he did this now it wont run any game whatsoever, for any drive at that even the virtual-drive. It would have the audio playing, but the video goes out & I get the blue screen. But we popped a DVD in & the movie played fine. We looked in disk management & the drive would only show up if we had a disc in it. Device manager wasn't showing any issue. Would booting in safe mode & changing it through disk management though there work?
