i am looking to buy a custom desktop for gaming but having previously relied mostly on console gaming don't really know what to look for. Most of my pc gaming is focused on the football manager and total war series, so obviously a very large harddrive and a lot of RAM are needed. Needless to say i am looking for it to last a few years, at least until after shogun total war 2, my budget is around $700-$1000 for the tower as i have the peripherals and will upgrade them later. Any input would be much appreciated.

Welcome to the forums.
If you live in England how come you want us to help you buy a PC that has the price in $?
Do you have any site that you prefer fro parts?

A fast PC would be this:
DVD-RW: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...
Case: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...
HDD: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...
Motherboard: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...
Video card: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...
Power supply: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...
RAM: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...
CPU: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...

Grand Total:* $953.92

See if you can find these components in London for the same price. You also have the possibility to buy a second video card like the one that i have posted because the sli scaling of the GTX460 is very good.
Even with this single card you will have the power you need to play more demanding games at up to 1920x1080 resolution.
If you cant post here a site from where you want to buy your PC and we can help you chose your components from there.
