Ideally I would like to spend $900 but will be willing to spend an extra hundred or so for some more longevity. I have a 1TB external HD for stroage, so I could probably get by with a budget HDD.

Come back when it's closer to the time when you're going to buy. Prices will change and newe tech might emerge.

In general, you'd be looking at a X3 440, Gigabyte GA-790XTA-UD4, 2x2 GB of 1600 mhz CAS Latency 7 RAM, an HD 5850 or 5870, a Samsung Spinpoint F3 500 GB, and a 650W or 750W PSU.

Btw both psus are very capable of powering the setup for years while one will only be good for one highend gpu(the thermal take) (the thermaltake is my current mid end gaming build and the cooler is my next for my highend build) the other is capable of powering two (or three depending on the mobo)

i wouldnt know about optical drives though

the build i just made can all be bought in local toronto (i live in scarborough lol) and is only 719.99 before tax with the CM psu(though those are current prices with MIR which will be different in a month) that leaves you room to upgrade a few parts or get a decent graphic card

i purposely chose a gx motherboard because you wont have to rely on a graphic card. while the gpu in it is very capable jsut not quite as something like a 5770 or 5870. you can get an xfx 5770 gpu for as little as 179.99 which your leftover budget should easily cover unless you want to upgrade to better ram/hdd/processor

i didnt include a cpu cooler because you chose maybe for overclocking but if you would like me to recommend one id pick this....
