DDR2 single channel vs dual channel question

Right my question is that I had only 2GB of RAM 2 x 1GB 400Mhz DDR2 in daul channel but a friend game me one sick of DDR2 2GB 400Mhz RAM so now I have 1 x 1GB & 1 x 2GB but in single channel I was wondering would it be better to have less memory is dual or more in single?

Performance will likely be better with 3GB in single-channel rather than 2GB in dual-channel.

Thank you I was thinking that but have always read daul is best im looking to upgrade my CPU to a Athlon II or Phenom II then I will buy 4GB DDR3 unless i can get some good DDR2 stuff cheap

Even if you get some DDR2 "cheap" when you upgrade, go with the DDR3 in that it can be used in the rig after that, and after that.
