Automatic ZIP Downloads

Hi All,

Since my SP2 update to WinXP, when I use a URL to grab up a ZIP file I'm not
prompted to "Open" or "Save" the file but instead the file downloads
automatically and opens. How can I set this to be avoided -- I want the
choice to simply "Save" and not open the file right away.

Thanks in advance! - Fred

Fred, are you using WinXP's built in Zip Extractor or a Third Party
Program?

Hi Rich...

I have WinZip but never configured the thing myself to open them
automatically.

Would the SP2 update change WinZip settings?

TIA - Fred

Fred, easiest thing to do is to Uninstall WinZip from the Control
Panel>Add/Remove Programs. Restart and then reinstall it.
During the reinstall pay attention to what it asks. WinZip Help has very
good instructions also.

Hi All..

Here's the fix:

1. Click Start , point to Settings , and then click Control Panel.

2. Double-click Folder Options.

3. Click the File Types tab.

4. Scroll down to and click the .zip extension.

5. Click Advanced.

6. Verify that Confirm open after download is selected.

Regards - Fred
