Here is my situation, I can connect to the internet by using either dns or the ip address and I can connect to my local server by using the ip address. However I cannot connect to the local server by using its name. Other people on the network don't have a problem connecting to the server by name. I can ping my loopback address, my ipaddress, the default gateway and google. The operating system I am using is windows 7 and the server is using windows xp home.
I would appreciate any feedback. Thank you

Can you post the results of an ...

ipconfig /all

... for both the non-functioning system as well as a functioning one? First step would be to compare the 2.
