Pc turns on then off then restarts....

Hello,
My PC turns on, goes to the "windows XP and pentium 4" logo, blank screen then turns off then on again. What can alleviate this or is my system suffering from an electrical short? Or is it toast? thanks.

Yeah, if it was working fine - and you didnt change anything - then something is broken. There should be some sort of diagnostic application if this is a branded PC (Dell, HP, etc). It could be any number of things from a hard drive to memory. Try pressing F8 to get into safe mode - if that doesnt work you will need to boot from CD or USB to take a look at your drive and try to diagnose it....
