APPROXIMATE PURCHASE DATE: this week

BUDGET RANGE: 800-1000 CAD$

SYSTEM USAGE FROM MOST TO LEAST IMPORTANT: gaming (starcraft 2), office

PARTS NOT REQUIRED: monitor, keyboard/mouse

PREFERRED WEBSITE(S) FOR PARTS: ncix

COUNTRY OF ORIGIN: Québec, Canada

PARTS PREFERENCES: Intel CPU, Nvidia GPU

OVERCLOCKING: No

SLI OR CROSSFIRE: No

MONITOR RESOLUTION: 1680x1050

ADDITIONAL COMMENTS: My goal is to reach a decent 800$ build including windows/office that can run very decently starcraft 2

I would like to stick with the intel/nvidia combo. I know nothing about compatibility between motherboards-processor-graphics, so I am a bit worried to chose everything my self. There is also the PSU which I am not sure.

Lastly, I do not intend to SLI or overclock.

Here is what I found on NCIX, any ideas to reduce the price ?

Thanks!

I changed some parts slightly, removed the os and the network card.

I mister T , im in Montreal myself and if i was going to order from an online store it would be newegg , there are cheaper then ncix. and tigerdirect.ca and they only charge you 1 tax so you save that way as well ill look for the same parts you have and compare prices and then post .

That is all from Newegg.ca , your missing your DVD burner , that i forgot to put in but there 24$ and you have a faster HD with more cache , i would recommend changing graphic cards because the GTS 250 is really the 8800 GT re-branded and for 204$ from newegg you can get the GTX 460 and that card is much faster and it will still work out to cheaper then what you were willing to pay at ncix.

I followed some of the suggested changes here and on another forum. Here what the build could look like. A bit overbudget. What if I changed the GTX 460 for a HD 5770 ?

You could do that but the 5770 doesnt perform as well as the GTX 460 , I personally think ATI cards need a price drop now that the 460 is out , i included the review off of toms between the 5770 and 460 take a look and then decide , the 5770 is cheaper and performs well but the 460 is a better card.

In order to make the $800 target I had to make some sacrifice. I could not find any other card (that I knew off) for a price similar to the GTS 250. So here is the deal I would buy. Anything I should be worried about (apart from building a computer by myself for the first time ?

Ok if your going to go with last generation tech ( or in the case of the GTX 250 , 3 generations old tech 8800 GTX , 9800 GTX and 250 GTX are all the same card ) you mite as well get this for 20$ more and it will outperform the 250 GTX by a good margin.

this is a link showing you that the GTX 250 is a 9800 GTX+ and the 9800GTX+ was an 8800GT with a mild overclock and a die shrink . Ill post a review with the 4870 vs 9800GTX+ as soon as i find one .

Ya but have you ever tried to return something to NewEgg? I refuse to buy from them, they have screwed me over too too many times
