I need a second opinion. I wanted to buy an AMD II X4 But in the back of my mind, I want to get a Core 2 Quad. Im on a budget, and thats why im naming those parts. Please help.

Solution
Athlon II x4 are very good for their price. 620's can be had for $85 on Newegg and can match a Q8300 if oc'd. 955 BE is roughly equivalent to a Q9550, can be had for $139.99 on Newegg w/ free shipping. If you can stretch the budget get the 955, otherwise the 620/630 are very good entry quad cpu's. The 620/630 will save you about $100 which you can put into a better gpu/etc.

Splendid
By AMD X4 do you mean athlon or phenom? Core 2 quads at retail price are horrid buys right now, and even at uneven prices, the phenom II will beat them generally. Also has more native support for SATA 6, USB 3, and DDR3. As you can see:

Phenom generally> C2Q. However, better yet, get a i5 750/760. C2Q is pretty outdated, and horridly priced. Phenom is good, but clocked high, so dont expect as great a overclock relative to stock. i5 is a nice mixture.

Alright. Quads are expensive right now vs the new I5/I3 or equivalent AMD offerings. (q9300 are going for about $189.00) Depending on usage you can probably get away with an x3 ($60-$80), but if you budget can stretch to an I5 ($200-$220) I would looking at them as Ares suggested. Also look at the gaming CPU charts on the front page to get a better gage on performance, if gaming is going to be this comp's primary function.
