Looking to build a gaming computer...

Hey everyone, new builder here.

I'm hoping someone could lend me a hand on this. I'm looking to build a new, stable gaming computer. I've had my old one for almost 3 years, and I just can't run anything new on it anymore without it crashing 5-10 minutes into playtime.

I'm hoping for a price range of $650-$750 from Newegg.com, though I'd be willing to go up to $800 if necessary. Upgradeability would be a plus.

  1. Might want to fill out the form from the link in my signature. More info is always helpful.

Here's a preliminary build, assuming you don't need anything except the tower:

    CPU/Mobo: X3 440 and Gigabyte GA-790XTA-UD4 $183 after rebate
    RAM: G.Skill Eco 2x2 GB 1600 mhz CAS Latency 7 $105
    GPU/PSU: HD 5850 and XFX 650W $335 after rebate
    HDD: Samsung Spinpoint F3 1 TB $70
Case/Optical: Coolermaster 690 and cheap SATA DVD burner $73

Total: $766. Went a touch over.
  2. The tower might be an issue. It's one of these, and it's what I've been using for my old computer: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811144076&Tpk=X-Infinity
