$400 i3 HTPC

Well I've managed to find all the components I need for my basic HTPC build. I just need to know if certain parts will work with the i3 mobo combo i've chosen. I'm only going to use this system for watching Hulu, Netflix, possibly use Boxee or TMT3, and probably upgrade later to a bigger hard drive and add in a blu ray player. For now, this will do. Please review, and let me know if this will work, what I need to add, subtract, etc. Thanks.

T925-3026 ::Thermaltake CLP0555 TMG i3 CPU Cooler - LGA Socket 1156 (1.05 lbs)

O261-9032 ::OCZ Gold Dual Channel 2048MB PC10666 DDR3 1333MHz Memory (2 x 1024MB)(0.05 lbs)

L12-1334 OEM ::Lite-On IHAS22406 Internal DVD Writer - DVD+R 24X, DVD-R 24X, DVD+RW 8X, DVD-RW 6X, SATA, Lightscribe (OEM)(1.8 lbs)

A107-1122 ::Apevia X-Master Desktop HTPC Case - Front USB, Firewire, Audio ports with 500-Watt Power Supply, (Black)(15.3 lbs)

TSD-250AS8 ::Seagate ST3250318AS Barracuda 7200.12 Hard Drive - 250GB, 7200, 8MB, SATA-300(1 lbs)

B69-4087 ::Gigabyte GA-H55M-S2H Motherboard & Intel Core i3 530 Processor Bundle(3.75 lbs)

Mainly, I want to know if the cpu fan is needed and if that's the correct memory I've selected. Every thing else should work, correct? Also, I already have Win7, that's why I was able to keep the build at $400.

  1. The Intel stock fan should fit just fine, and everything looks good to go.

    You are ordering on tigerdirect right? Whats the prices, see if newegg has them cheaper or in a combo.
  2. excellent. thanks. yes, I'm ordering from tiger direct. Newegg killed it with the tax with a slightly different configuration. 4 gigs of ocz memory, nmediapc 5000b case and a separate fan with no dvd-rw. So tigerdirect turns out to be the best deal since its going to be less than $400 shipped if i remove the cpu fan from the order.
  3. I think tigerdirect has price-match though, so check newegg fro identical items that cheaper.
  4. oH.. Okay.. will do. Thanks for the heads up. If i go with the nMediaPC 5000b case, what psu do you recommend? If, I do decide to add the lenovo multimedia remote, is it all plug and play with this system? Any configurations I will be needing to make it work?
