Some help, please?

Hello,
I'm new here.I have a fairly old Compaq with an ATHLON or Celeron processor. The power supply and cpu fan went up, so I took it to the neighborhood "expert" to have it fixed. So he loans me a dinosaur that has a P3 and tells me I'm better off keeping this loaner `cause it's "faster" than the Compaq??? But when I download stuff, it's slow...it crashes all the time and I can't even run the simplest game cd's that my Compaq never had issues with. What o you guys think?

I pretty much figured out the idiot part lol. This guy even "gifted" me an unlicensed copy of XP Pro...So, P3's haven't been the fastest things out there for over 10 yrs, right?

I bought my Compaq in 2002 used (2 yrs old) from Rent-A-Center. It's a great system. Where are the cheapest places to get parts?
