I got a Dell poweredge 2850 and was thinking about adding more ram in it. Because I am running 5 virtual PC off of it and it only have 4 GB.
I am not the familiar with server hardware, except they add a few extra zeros on the price tag.
Can I just add some normal DDR2 sticks in there and call it good . Or does it have to be server quality ram.
I have 4 slots of the 6 taken up with 1GB sticks.
I was looking on newegg and they have a server memory category but I can't physically tell a difference between the two.
I was looking at this normal desktop memory
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820220525&Tpk=DDR2
VS
the server memory
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820134619&cm_re=DDR2-_-20-134-619-_-Product

The server memory said is it Fully Buffered and the desktop said it is unbuffered
Also desktop doesn't have ECC..

I am guessing the Fully Buffered is for servers and unbuffered is for desktop. So I would need to buy the server memory?

When I do buy the memory, what are the changes I could just plug them in and it will all work with the original 4 1GB sticks that are in there?
