Stumped! DVD burners not working on my computer

I have windows 7HP. None of the cd or dvd burns are successful. I use wmp or winamp usually but even Nero won't burn from storage. Message reads burner not connected or disc requires cleaning.

go into device manager and see if an error code is reported / update driver.

What kind of discs are you using. Could a media problem.
Have you tried using windows explorer to burn?

Use imgburn!

You should try different media and if it still fails then the problem is probably a faulty burner. CD/DVD burners are very cheap nowadays and are easy to change. It is a fact of life the CD/DVD burners have a limited life and can only burn on average a thousand or so discs before the laser gives out.

Memorex dvd-r and cd-r. No joy in wmp just reports error. Will try using explorer, never tried before

It seems like when you installed and removed the different cd writing utilities it messed up the lower and upper filters.
Just run that fix it solution from ms to fix it.
