I'm getting a new computer for gaming soon and I need to know what a good video card is these days. I want to spend about $150-$170. I've looked around but everything is so confusing. What do you guys think is the best card in this price range, for gaming?

hi bro, i think your best bet would be the ati radeon hd 5770, it got support for dx11 and its exactly in the price range u are looking for, but just for curiosity, could u tell me all your computer specs and resolution u will be playing?

Thanks for the reply. I haven't actually decided what computer I'm going to buy yet. I figured I'd start with the video card. I know newer cards require a lot of power, so I'll make sure I get an appropriate power supply.

All I know so far is that I want it to be a quad core processor, and have at least 6 gigs of RAM. And I want Windows 7 64bit. Any suggestions on the specifics of these things? I haven't kept current on computers in the past few years.

mmmm okay, if you dont want to spend a lot on the processor you could get the Phenom II x4 955 black edition 3.2Ghz $160-$180 or intel core 2 quad q8400 2.66Ghz $180

here are the links in amazon

intel core 2 quad: http://www.amazon.com/Intel-Processor-1333MHz-LGA775-BX...

i think you should go fore the Amd CPU its the cheapest one and is very good. and for the RAM, get standard RAM, its cheap and you could put more for the price of theexpensive one

Thanks.

I did some reading and found that the Radeon HD 4870 is slightly faster than the 5770. They seemed to be nearly the same price. Is there something else that the 5770 does better than the 4870?

@ Entropy5: The 5770 is cooler, quieter and DX11 capable, it's also better at HD movie playback (particularly sound).
I have used both and would strongly advise you to look to the HD5770, despite the HD4870's slightly better framerates.

well, the hd 4870 is faster but it does not has support dx11 as the 5770 has, its your choice, the two cards are really good, for me, the hd 5770 will be the best choice because it will be better for future games
