I'm currently using Creative Inspire 5.1 5300 speakers, which are fine for games, but don't live up to my standards for DVD movies. I'm trying to decide between two possibilities for upgrade, and I would appreciate some advice from people who have used these systems.

My first choice would be the Creative Inspire 5700 5.1 Digital speakers. This is mainly because of the excellent receiver with hardware Dolby Digital and DTS decoding, as well as the ability to connect to practically anything. Reviews I've read have spoke very highly of these speakers.

On the other hand, I'm intrigued by the Creative Labs MegaWorks THX 5.1 550. The THX certification must count for something, and being brand new I would suppose they are possibly better than the Inspire 5700 system. However, I can't seem to find ANY reviews of this system. I'm also loathe to spend the money on them, considering this system has no external receiver.

What do you guys think? I'm pretty much set on the 5700's, but if you can give me some first-hand impressions of the Megaworks THX system, I would certainly take it into consideration. Thanks a bunch!

EDIT:
Also, which method of connecting digital surround speakers to my Audigy sound card would be better: S/PDIF (RCA-to-RCA) cable or DIN cable + Mini Plug to DIN cable? Thanks.

Yah, Klipsch dominate all. You can read reviews on their 5.1's, 4.1's and 2.1's. The 5.1 system has a total output of 500 Watts. Microtractix horn tweeters, Bash Hybrid amplifyer. I have their 4.1 and 2.1 systems. They can outdue any speaker system on the market. They are expensive though. If you want reviews on their 2.1's go to www.anandtech.com
Speakers alone don't make good sound. You do need a good sound card or onboard audio chip. Example for minimum standard.... Ac97 audio chip, SB Audigy 1 or 2.

Another vote for Klipsch.

I like the Megaworks. They sound better. The Promedias are not bad though, but too boomy and the midrange and treble are better in the Megaworks. You would be happy with either.

Also looking for a speaker system for PC gaming.

You can find reviews on the 550s in:

and

and for the earlier 510D (the 550s are a development)

Have not heard any of them though. Sorry.
