Seeing a few deals that puts the gtx 465 around the 5830 price. You think it's a much better deal for 265 performance over 5830?

+1
It's like comparing dog and wolf poop: they both stink. Their heat and power over-usages could be forgiven if they were both priced between 150-200.

Garbage? Time to do some reading. The 465 can be unlocked to 470 specs.

5830 is also a great card if you can get it for 199.99 like the HIS model on newegg. The drivers for it have come full circle and offer a lot better performance then the launch drivers.
I still think 200 is too much for these cards, when you compare their power consumption and performance to their bigger stablemates.

If I could get a pair of 5830s for under 350, I would probably go for it, since I have a standing $250 offer for both my 4870s, hah.

Not all 465s can be unlocked the same, those without the added memory chips are still back-end crippled. Better than a stock 465, but not a full fledged 470 either.

So it's a gamble, you might end up with something that didn't make the cut as a GTX470, but unlocked to act similar to one, or else you may end up with a GTX465.

Depends on how well it does without the back-end, the features that make the GTX4xx series most compelling are things that require back-end strength, like the touted advantage in tesselation, where the GTX 470 matches an HD5870 and dual GTX470s match a GTX480.

Without that back-end the GTX465 remains pretty weak, it's still better than a stock 465, but probably not near enough to a GTX470 to justify it's price and especially when HD5850s are available for under $300 (like the way GTX470s were a few weeks back before the GTX465), so shoulda just got a GTX470 then IMO.

It would definitely improve it's position versus the HD5830 (although the HD5830 is still priced much less), however, as mentioned those are both kinda dog-like cards and need to be cheaper even with the unlock which seems to only be for a very select few cards, like POV.

Considering that those two options hover too close to GTX275, price needs to be lower on the GTX465s to start with, unless nV is expecting people to pay a huge premium because of this unlocking cache.

Still say get a GTX470 or HD5850 instead, especially if you want to actually play tougher games in the future.
