System Build Advice Requested

I'm doing a system build for a friend. I've done several before, but I always like to get feedback from the experts before I spend a bunch of money. :D The goal with this system is to build a good gaming system for around $1000 (not counting a monitor). Here's what I was thinking:

GIGABYTE GA-870A-UD3 AM3 AMD 870 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX AMD Motherboard

Phenom II X4 965 Black Edition Deneb 3.4GHz

XFX HD-585X-ZAFC Radeon HD 5850 1GB

G.SKILL Ripjaws Series 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800)

Western Digital Caviar Black WD1001FALS 1TB 7200 RPM 32MB Cache SATA

BFG Tech GS-550 550W ATX12V Power Supply

COOLER MASTER ATX Mid Tower Computer Case

ASUS Black 24X DVD Burner

Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit 1-Pack for System Builders

Total comes to $1,005.91, plus some for shipping. Does that look alright? Thoughts?

  1. No to BFG PSU. ATM, XFX makes has the best PSU deal. $120 w/ $20 MIR for one of the best every made.
965 over 955 is waste of money. Caviar black is worse than the cheaper f3. RAm you want tighter timings than that.

    G Skill Eco $105

    Cm 690 and Samsung $73

    Ga 890 UD3 and Phenom II x4 955 $275

    XFX 750w and XFX 5850 $275 w/ $20 MIR

    win 7 oem 64 bit $99

    Spinpoint F3 1tb $75

Total: $1004 before shipping and $20 rebates
  2. thanks for the info; combo deals are where its at i guess :)
