Gateway 4200-09

Hello,
I have Gateway 4200-09, with a amd phenom 1.86 ghz processor. What upgraded processors can I use in this motherboard, to help make use of the maxed out 8 gbs of ram? thank you.

It looks like the best bet is probably the AMD Phenom II X4 945 Deneb 3.0GHz

It has the same 95W TDP of your current CPU, and with a BIOS update your motherboard in the dx4200 should work with am3 CPU's.

I have a dx4300 I was going to do this with, but bought a x2 550 BE at the time because it was a lot cheaper, but now the x4's are only 30 bux more.

Keep in mind you have a maximum of 95W CPU support for this board, don't go looking at the 125 W phenom II's.

Im in the same boat Ive been trying to figure out what processor i can use in my 4200-09 but i dont know enough to figure it out!

All I know is its 95w AM2+ and gotta be from AMD! so you think the AMD Phenom II X4 945 Deneb will work?

whats the difference between AM2+ and AM3?

thank you. From what I can find out, am3 cpus will work in am2+ mobos, and am2+ cpus will not work in am3 mobos

Hello,
I discovered thru researching this on the net, that the fastest processor that I can replace the Phenom x4 9100e, step B2, 1.8GHz, 2MB L2 and L3 Caches, HT 1.6 Ghz, 9x multi, 65w TDP, AM2+ Socket processor with is a Phenom x4 9450e, Step B3, 2.1 GHz, 2 MB L2 and L3 Cache, HT 1.8 GHz, 10.5x multi, 65 w TDP, AM2+ Socket processor, because of the MSI K9A2 Plantinum Mobo, its Socket, and its TDP. To use any other I would have to start from scratch with the Mobo on up. thanks for everyones help.

The Phenom x4 9100e is a am2+ socket, with a tdp of 65 w, the Phenom x4 9450 has a b3 step at 2.2GHz 1.8 GHz ht, which is a little faster, any processor above this one has a higher tdp, like the 945. So as far as I can tell the 945 am3 chip will not fit, and will overheat, it that correct? thank you.
