4Gb Ram installed, 2Gb showing

Last response: in Motherboards

My board specified above does not recognize the Patriot ram (2 x 1Gb) stick I have. The bios shows only 1Gb of memory when it's 2 x 1Gb.

bios: current
CPU: AMD Athalon X2 64
OS: Win 7
RAM: Patriot 2 x 1Gb
Board: Asus M2A-VM HDMI

I've tried resetting the bios (remove cmos batt and switch jumpers), I've tried the ram in other slots (though the manual tells me to put it in the first slot), I've tried switching it with another stick (identical ram in every way (brand included))...

I'm stumped. Anyone have any ideas?

2 x 1gig is only 2 gigs. If 2gigs is showing like your subject says, this is correct.

Hi, this may sound silly but make sure that your put your memory sticks in the right DIMMS (not one next to the other).. The Asus M2A-VM uses yellow and black DIMM colors, yet if you put both memory in yellow it will probably not work, one needs to be put in the first yellow DIMM (closer to the CPU) and the other in the first black DIMM.
