Are they any good?

I found this for a cheap price(1350 US$, New):

Acer TravelMate: TM4502LMi

Intel® Pentium® M Processor 725 (1.60GHz, 2MB L2 cache, 400MHz FSB)
512MB (256/256) DDR333 SDRAM
80GB hard drive
modular DVD-Dual drive (DVD+/-RW)
3-in-1 card reader
15.0" XGA (1024 x 768) display
Intel® 855GME chipset with integrated graphics
802.11b/g WLAN, 10/100 LAN, V.92 modem

I do understand that its XGA and that the max display is 1024x768, I think
this acceptable for a 15" screen. I even have mine set at 1024x768 on my 19"
desktop monitor.

The only downside, i'm not even sure if it's even a downside, is that the
graphics card is integrated the motherboard. Maybe I should upgrade?

Thanks

I'm not sure why its cheap. This system should be expensive.

Hi S. Reicher,

Normally when they say that the graphics controller is 'integrated',
it means that it shares the system RAM. For general business usage;
Internet, word processing, spreadsheets, etc. you will not notice
anything. If you are doing image editing or playing high end games,
you will notice sluggish performance.

very good value, very poor support should you ever need it.

if you plan on playing games or lots of 3D stuff, integrated graphics is
not the way to go.

with notebooks, upgrading video is usually not an option. (most notebooks
will let you change RAM and HD, but thats about it). if you want a
seperate video card, you'll have to look at another model.

i have an Acer Aspire 2000 series (now the 2020 i think) that is fabulous,
1.5 Pentium M, 64MB Radeon 9200 Mobility, 512MB RAm. lovin' it.

Acer's seem to have a steadily increasing reputation as good laptop makers.
