I have an IBM X40 (Win XP Pro). A CD burner does reside in the docking
station, but I won't take that when I travel.

Therefore, I'm looking for a lightweight external USB CD Burner and
would welcome any suggestions.
cheers,
Mahl

From my experience with external burners, your docking station is a
toss-up in terms of at least weight, and might actually be easier to
pack for travel compared to the typical external drive. Look for a
"slimline" external drive; it will the smallest and lightest, but is
relatively new for external use so might be difficult to find. Try
www.newegg.com .

If you have an internal CD-ROM drive, replace it with an internal CD-RW or
CD-RW/DVD or even a writable DVD.

We're using an IBM USB 2.0 CD-RW/DVD-Rom Combo Drive (part number
22P9195). It's very very compact and lightweight, can be powered
directly from the X40 via the provided special USB&power-cable. Comes
with a padded carrycase. I can recommend this one.

Cheers,
Teemu.
