Hello,
I recently installed an ATI Radeon 9700 pro 128mb AGP and can no longer play any of my games keep getting errors due to direct 3d not being enabled....unfortunatly i cannot get direct 3d to work even though i have reinstalled both graphics drivers and the directX 9.0c.

any help out there?

spec;
pentium 4 2.8ghz
1gb ram
128mb AGP radeon 9700 pro
windows xp pro sp3

Well...from the "start" button>Run>dxdiag>Enter
Dxdiag will take a few seconds to gather info, then you can move through the pages to run each of the tests and check the results. If there are problems, there is a troubleshoot button on the last page, see if that helps.

I'm pretty sure the ATI 9700 (and the entire R300 core) does NOT support DirectX 9.0c.
To support DX9.0c you need to have Shader Model 3.0, and it only has SM2.0

It's a hardware limitation, to overcome it with software you would have to use a software renderer that runs on the CPU, but you'll need serious CPU muscle for that.

but surely it would just not work on directX 9.0c games but will on DX9, DX8, DX7 etc.
i am not even able to use any old games such as medal of honor allied assault.
so do you suggest i get rid of dx9.0c and just install dx9.0?
