Planning to Upgrade from 8800GT Sonic to HD5850

Good Day,


I would like to know from you guys if I Upgrade from 8800GT sonic to HD5850 is reasonable or will there be a bottleneck with my CPU and GPU.

I can OC my CPU to 3.6GHz 1333 FSB and RAM on 960

My Current Rig is:

Asus P5Q Vanilla
Intel PDC E5300
4x1gb Corsair XMS2
Palit 8800GT Sonic
Samsung P2250 1920x1080
Seagate 1TB
Silverstone STF50 500watts

You'll want to OC your CPU to 3.4ghz at LEAST..or upgrade to a Q8400.

Otherwise, an HD5850 will give you at least double your current performance.

There isn't any problem unless your PSU, I'm not sure if it's able to supply enough power with overcloclking.

In fact this PSU isn't able to get its standard under high load and temperature.

With your replies i think im gonna get a new PSU and a new GPU... I think it's gonna be a little expensive for now... hahahaha... anyway thanks for the replies...

Get the GPU first and see how it performs with your current PSU and your CPU at default clockspeeds, if you get any issues then start changing other bits.

No, maybe the PSU is unnecessary, in fact I'm not very sure that I have said just now, even through I'm worry about it.

You can try to upgrade without a new stronger PSU if you don't have enough budget.

There are sketchier units than this, it has 2-6 pin connectors , so should be good to go!
Its a dual core cpu. With a 150 watt tdp gpu.

ST50EF+ is more different from STF50.

ST50EF+ is an excellent PSU that is made by Enhance based on 6800G and double magnetic amplification, but STF50 is made by FSP with the structure of GreenPower, so their performances aren't different at all.

What brand would you guys recommend? who makes the best ATI chipset GPU...? hehehehe... sori i got so many questions... this is my first time to use ATI... im a NVIDIA fan... but it seems NVIDIA has no Affordable yet Powerful Product as of now...

If you don't like these brands, you also choose the unstandard verson of the others such as MSI Twin Frozr, Asus DirectCU and Giga OC.

I read some forums and they go for saphire and XFX... well i think those cards are good enough... well... need to dispose of my DSLR to get me a new GPU... hehehehehe... Tnx Guys...
