Hard disk error

I have an external wd ses hard drive of 1tb..from some time time it is giving me problems like low data copying speed,a lot of data was lost which was saved in this harddisk..So i formatted it and it took more than a day to complete format..I've tried scanning it through windows7 and tune up utility but the complete scan was stuck at 96% both the times even after 2 days of continous scanning...
It shows a temperature of 47 degree C..Its just 2 yers old ..Pls recommend something to make it right
