What kind of apps and setting should I be using if I am connecting to a public wireless network to protect myself. Also its it a good idea to be accessing my personal accounts (mail, finance) via wireless, not sure how secure it is on public networks.

Thanks

If your company has VPN access you should use that to tunnel into your network and access websites through that connection.

Access your email via ssl or secured webmail.

Use SSH if you can.

I wouldn't do any web transactions at a hotspot but if you do it better be SSL enabled pages.

Enable your local firewall as well as making sure your A/V is up to date.

If you don't have a company VPN there are other solutions you can use.
