Hi there,

I have been doing extensive research for a custom built HTPC box.
I want to keep it cheap (around 300$), low in consumption (to act as a file server) but nice and able to play 1080p.
Atom ion 330 platform seems the obvious choice, but i am frightened after reading the numerous comments saying "don't us it for anything else" . I would like to use not strictly for video playback, maybe ocassional living room gaming, but not sure if it will be able to take non last generation games, like FIFA or things like this, or even decent desktop replacement.

I am taking a look at i3/i5/i7 and equivalent and I got the feeling it is not that big advantage over the ion cpus...
However, i still feel ion is overpriced for what it does.

So question is:

Should i keep it as cheap as possible and upgrade in a year or so (and recycle the box or keep it as a NAS) or should i look to other platforms?

Thanks!!!
