I have 2 5970s both with the arctic cooling cooler. The top one idles at 32ish where as the bottom one is much higher like around 39. The bottom one is the first one I had and use to be used by itself and it kept very cool temps so the only thing I can think is that the top one is spewing its heat out right onto the back plate of the bottom one.

probably the only way to really handle this proper is to switch to a water cooling solution, but I wanted to see what you guys thought.. If that sounds like it's the problem or not, and if there is anything that could be done to funnel the heat out another way.

Thanks

I wouldn't worry 39C is very cool for a 5970

Maybe the bottom 5970 hasn't got as much space to "breath" as the top card and the fact that the top card is, like you said spewing its heat on the bottom card.

You could place a fan at the bottom of your case, or on the left side panel (if possible) to help improve air circulation.
