The phenom even though the i5 is probably better, why?

I bet you'll be able to upgrade to a hexa core later for only 300$ compared to 1000$ for the intel based build.

the phenom ii x4 955 is the best choice because all intel's sockets are goin to be replaced in the beggining of 2011

If you want to upgrade your PC & have big budged go for i7 or buy i5.Intel processor are best in present time.AMD processor produce more heat & consume more watt than intel. And for GTA 4 i5 is best.I've played this game with C2Q Q8300.It runs very good in my rig.For more detail click here

Depends on your budget, for gaming both CPUs are very good, i5 will cost more though as will their mother boards. I think the cheapest option with XFire/SLI is something like the MSI p55 GD65 at $159.99 ($139.99 after rebate)

Whereas an AMD motherboard will be cheaper. If getting an i5 means having to buy a cheaper GPU, then I would suggest AMD.

I wouldn't worry about upgrade paths because you are building to last at least 3 years and by then technology will have moved on, so current socket choice really is not important

Just FYI, not that it matters. But the 760 is $209, and the 750 is $195 (but the 750 is being phased out), not sure if you are super tight on budget, but you might be able to pick up the 750 - which has great reviews, and save a few bucks.

Also, if you have a microcenter near you, the 750 (if they still have it in stock) is only $160, and the 760 is $190.
