ATI HD 4850 performance reduced critically

I bought hd 4850 around 10 months ago and i've played many games since then on all settings maxed out at a resolution of 1280x1024.

But around 3 weeks ago, FPS in games started decreasing significantly with each day.And no matter what the graphics settings were,i was getting the same crappy FPS.Since i'm using a CRT monitor with sreen refresh rate at 70 Hz so 70 FPS is the limit that my monitor can display. Here are FPS of some games :-

NFS MW :- 25 fps(now) and 70 fps (before)

Street Fighter :- 23 fps(now) and 70 fps (before)

Crysis Warhead :- 18 fps(now) and 50 fps (before)

Left 4 Dead :- 22 fps(now)

Blur :- 13 fps(now)

Split Second:- 15 fps(now)

I've reinstalled my OS(Windows 7 Ultimate) many times since then and have thoroughly scanned my computer for virus infections but it's still the same.

My PC specs are as follows:-

CPU:- Dual Core @ 2 GHz

RAM:- 2GB Kingston

HDD:- 250 GB Seagate

Graphics:- 1 GB HIS HD 4850

PSU:- 500 Watts

Card overheating? Check and clean heat sink and fan on card.
PSU which brand, model and age?
Updated drivers?

I cleaned the card 2 days ago and the temperature is normal at 45-50 degree celsius.PSU manufacturer is NAVTech(HTNT-500) and i bought it around 2 years ago.I haven't updated the drivers but i was getting better FPS with same driver before.

Problem might be your PSU, unable to find it on the web. What is the amp rating on the +12volt rail?

navtech makes computer cases, they probably tossed a generic PSU in there

14amps if a single rail is nowhere near enough for the HD4850. You have been overloading that PSU for 10months if so. I suggest a new PSU before it blows up.

I don't have any idea if it's on single 12V rail or Multirails. If there's any way to check it then tell me ...

yeah your PSU put up a good fight powering the 4850 for 10 months,

its time to give it a viking funeral and replace it

this corsair unit has a great price and peaks far better then its labeled 400w. it has more then twice as many amps on its 12v as your previous unit.

That is amazing! Did you have instability or did it just run?

No! Wait. Check this first.

Download and run CPU-Z.

Then go to the "Mainboard" tab.

Then look at the graphic interface tab. Check if it's running at 16x. If it's running at 8x or maybe even lower (1X is possible.) then reseat the video card and check again.

Hey, i replaced my PSU.I buyed a PSU manufactured by iBall rated as 450 watts and it has +12 V on 2 rails. But to everyone's surprise, the problem was still there and then i checked my processor and there was no thermal paste. It had completely dried and almost vanished.I re applied the paste and problem was solved. Now , i'm getting even better frame rates at games.I guess that's due to new and better power supply unit.

Thank you everyone for your help.
