RAM speed makes more difference than RAM timings. Sandy Bridge's price/performance sweet spot seems to be 1600 CL9, but if you want to spend more for a couple of percentage points, go ahead. It can make some difference while gaming (mostly in minimum frame rates -- maximum and average frame rates aren't affected).

It would help if you could re-cite the links. One note about Sandy Bridge that I'll make is that you should ensure that you're buying memory that can reach the quoted speed at 1.5 volts. That's Sandy Bridge's "happy place" for voltage. There is some cheaper memory out there -- Corsair XMS3 -- that will do 1600MHz, but only at 1.65 volts.

Although some motherboard manufacturers are claiming compatibility with this, an Intel whitepaper puts safe maximum memory voltage for Sandy Bridge at the 1.5 volts stock +5%, or 1.575 volts.

If it were me, I would just go with the CL9 sticks for $49.99. You won't notice the difference between these, really.
