I just bought a 92mm Kama PWM fan to replace the old cpu fan on my dimension 4700. Both the old and new fan have 4 wires but the dell adapter has 5 pins (one is unused). Currently, I've been able to get the fan to run at full speed all the time, but it gives me a CPU fan error everytime I boot. Does anyone have any idea if this fan can "get onto speaking terms" with the mother board?
What are the functions of each of the pins. Right now I've got black to black and red to red, but the colors of the new fan's other 2 (orange and yellow) wires don't match with the system wires (blue and white, i think).
Probably these are sense and control wires, but which is which...?

Hello, and welcome to the Forum.

Black is ground and I think,( if it is running), the red is the current. The RED is the Negative charge flow while the BLACK is for collecting charge and creating a circuit. The other are possibly sensors. Contact Dell about this.
