A while back there was a Sony camera with a built-in printer, but by
today's standards it was huge and slow. It's surely out of production
by now.

Is anything being made today, that's an alternative to a Polaroid? I
mean you aim the camera and press a button, and the camera takes a
picture and a print comes out immediately. There should be no
kludges, no cables, no fumbling around with menus. One button, one
press, and you get a print.

Thanks.

There are some small, portable printers that either connect to a digicam
or accept a memory card. As far as I know, the atempts ot market a
digicam with a built-in printer, for polaroid film or otherwise,
resulted in an overly bulky product.

It looks like the Olympus C-211 is still available on ebay at
reasonable prices. It makes Polaroid Joycam prints. I might buy one.

Those portable printers are pretty slow, I think. One great thing
about Polaroid cameras is you don't have to wait very long between
shots. You can take another shot (and get a print) every few seconds.
Of course you burn money rapidly when you do that ($1 a print or so).
But this seems like an area where digital is not yet beating film.

While it might not be a simple press one button like you want, why are you
ruling out a pictbridge printer where you connect the camera's USB cable to the
printer and select which print to make via a menu? Or a printer like my HP
375B that is both a pictbridge printer and has slots for memory cards (with a
little LCD screen so you can pick the picture you want to print). It is has a
battery in it, so I can take it with me and not need a power source. I took it
to my church when they were doing the Christmas pagent, and I was able to print
the best shots during the coffee hour.

If it's really small, portable, and fast, it might be tolerable. Is
it any of those things? I'm hoping for something no more cumbersome
than a Polaroid camera (which are far from the tiniest of cameras).

Apparently the Olympus C-720 was pretty close to what I want, and
can be found fairly affordably on Ebay, so I might just get one if
I'm serious enough about this. We'll see.

You are asking for an aweful lot for a color photo printer. There is a big
difference between self-developing film and an electronic printing machine.
All that aside it looks like Polaroid may have an answer for you anyway -

It depends on your idea of portability. It is roughly lunchbox sized. For
smallness, you might want to look at the Canon CP330.

Wow, cool. My guess is that printer uses Joycam film, which is ok for
this purpose. However, the C-711 has such a printer built-in, which is
even more convenient.
