Hello I am trying to re-install Windows 7 Ultimate Edition via a USB. The problem my USB (8GB San Disk) is write protected which I never did anything to it like that...

What I've tried to do to fix it...

- The regedit trick (MyComputer->HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE->SYSTEM->CurrentControlSet->Control -> StorageDevicePolicies) to clear it (set to 0) but I don't have it (and I tried to find it by other means to)
- Clear Read-Only attribute via an elevated Command Prompt - it said it worked but when I try to format it it threw the same message.
- Also no it does not have a read only switch on it or anything like that.

Please help - this is fairly urgent... What do I do?

If you can't locate or do not have the StorageDevicePolicies key then you will need to create it.
First of all, remove the USB pen drive.
Now open the Registry Editor.

Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE->SYSTEM->CurrentControlSet->Control

Right-click on Control and click on New > Key. Name this new key StorageDevicePolicies

Right-click on the new folder you created called StorageDevicePolicies and click New > DWORD Value.
Name this WriteProtect

Double-click on Write Protect and change the Value Data to 0 and then click OK.
Close the Registry Editor and insert the USB pen drive.
