Hello,
I just got my new build

Intel i7 @ 3.22 GHz
Radeon 5770 1GB
4GB Ram
Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit

and I am getting 20 fps on GTAIV. I have watched videos with WORSE builds than me like core2duo's maxing it out with 60 fps. What is happening?

A few people have asked this, and here is the answer my friend.
GTA IV was ported, that is why you get such a poor frame rate in the game.

What it means is the code for the game was say taken from an Xbox 360, then it was ran through a program

to complie it so it could run on a pc.
The down side of a port is down to the loose coading by the compiler from one format to another.
In the real world all games should be coded for each sole machine.

Porting just speeds this up for programmers, and is a lazy way to code cross formats.

PSU 700watts
Closed all background processes.
Resolution 1920x1080 ( do not want to reduce as my system should run this fine on all high )
Latest drivers for Radeon 5770

and to Shaun O, that still doesn't answer why people with systems with core2duo's can get 60 fps unlike me. 20fps for my specs is clearly unacceptable.

A 5770 isn't a high end graphics card and will be holding you back.

I had better results with a GTS250.

perhaps your graphics settings are just way too high for your card. Try lowering them, especially the AA and Anistrofic stuff.

Also try lowering shadows, they make a BIG difference

LOL 1920x1080 and he wonders why he getting 20FPS. The HD 5770 is by all means a great card but its no high end card and thats what you need if you want to play at 1080. So eithier add a second card or upgrade.

Oh wait you could always try to lower the res.

I tried lowering the res, I get crooked lines. What option do I use to fix this?
