LOST KIDS/FAMILY PHOTOS

I just wanted to thank anyone forward for checking out this thread, and lending a hand.

My story:
Few weeks back I was going to check out my photos in the "my pictures" folder, and all of the pictures were GONE, just.... GONE.
Only thing that was there was a sub-folder : My pictures>
>Wedding pics
>empty
>Kids pics
>empty
....so on.
So after long battle with Chkdsk (Chkdsk.exe), didnt help.

Next thing was to use data recovery software, probably half dozen. They all seemed to be recovering files that i actually remember deleting, but no lost images.
Until I ran: TESTDISK AND RACUVA.
I was able to scan the hard drive and all of the pictures came up in the recovery software.
BUT, I was able to recover maybe 5% of the pictures (actually open the JPEG files and view), they rest, i could not view.
and the funny thing I was able to recover all of the thumbnails of the remaining pics, like you would see in folder preview!

Does anyone have any ideas??
My next move is to image the entire drive using sector copy w/ write blocker and try to recover the back up.

Any help would be appreciated!!

You probably should have imaged the drive from the outset. Otherwise you latest plan sounds good.
