Is this a home-build system or from a vendor? What's the model number if it's from a vendor?

From the looks of your system, you won't get much of a boost from a fast video card, your whole system would need an upgrade. From the looks of things, the card you have now is a PCI model, do you have an empty AGP slot? I don't think your motherboard would have a PCIE slot for video.

so perhaps my best option is to upgrade the motherboard and graphics card?

And the CPU. All depends on what you use this for. For newer games, you really should do a full upgrade. If it's just to make Windows 7 run a bit better, you can track down a PCI card better than the SiS one you have, those things are crap.

Save your money and build a whole new system, i think it's not worth to spend any money for your current system...
How old this system?
