Hello,
I have a sony handi-cam that records hd quality. When I download to my computer the playback is crystal clear. When I burn the downloaded video to a DVD it turns out slightly blurred.Do I need to upgrade my optical drive to acheive higher quality DVD reproductions?

I should preface this with the fact I'm not an expert but...

This is probably a function of compression so that the video data will fit on a DVD. to reduce compression, make sure you're generating 9GB DVD images (assuming you have dual layer drive and dual layer media). If you're already generating dual layer DVDs and it's still too blurry, you may need to step up to BluRay (i.e. you have a HD camcorder and you're trying to burn 2 hours of HD video (@ ~11GB/hour) onto a DVD).

You may not be an expert but you nailed it, the compression used in DVD's is pretty low compared to modern compressions. The only way to get around that would be Blu-Ray
