Dell monitor stopped working graphics card using vga-dvi

Hello,
my monitor on my dell dimension C521 has stopped working with it's VGA-DVI converter. yet it works through it's integrated monitor VGA input. What is wrong??

Let me get this right. Your monitor works with VGA from computer to VGA on monitor. It does not work with DVI to VGA adapter to VGA on the monitor?

yes. i think i have sorted out the problem. it turns out that the graphics card has fried from an electrical short, so the computer has automatically detected its onboard graphics and will only work with the integrated vga. i need to buy a new graphics card
