Can't allocate the 'Free Space'

Hi all,
So basically I deleted a partion on my hard drive and it is now showing as 'Free Space' and is colored green. All I want to do is 'merge' it with my C drive, so it is just one partion, like it is when you first use the hard drive. or failing that at least make it a usable drive. Creating a shrink volume just gives an error saying 'not enough disk space. I cannot merge my C drive with the free space. Any ideas?

dont merge the partition "resize" your free space and of same drive.
use minitools or anyother which you are comfortable with.

Thanks for your input guys, I will try your ideas when I get home from work. In the meantime, if anyone else has any suggestions then please let me know.
