New to SSD can I even get one

I'm am currently debating if I should get a new system or just do some upgrades to my current one which is running well and generally doing everything I need but is getting slow. I have this MB

GIGABYTE GA-965P-DS3 LGA 775 Intel P965 Express ATX Intel Motherboard

And I think it will be ok for an SSD but I'm not 100% sure. I also run XP and it is much easier not to change since my main program that I run is Pro Tools LE 8 and I don't need anything else for this. I don't play a lot of games.

Ideally what I would like to do is turn the SSD into my system drive. Currently I have 2 partitions a C drive which is about 20G and a data drive that is about 300G. The C drive is nearly full but the data drive has about 120G total on it. I've hunted around to see if one can clone the Cdrive only to the SSD and make that the new C drive but so many of the articles are old I'm still not sure if this is or is not possible.

So I'm trying here to get some expert advise. Sorry if this is the wrong place to ask or if this is an old question.
