Beginner Crossfire Question

Hello,

I am wondering if you can help me out. As I understand it crossfire is basically combining 2 video cards. So my first question is can you combine 2 different video cards (ie a mid range card and a low end card) with the low end card being the one that the display is connected to.

You must CF 2 same generation card, i.e:
HD5770 with HD5770 or HD5770 with HD5750.
HD5850 with HD5870.

You can't:
HD5770 with HD5850 or HD4850 with HD5770.

Basically: HD57xx with HD57xx and so on.

is there anything else, like is it possible to have the cards in 2 different slots like one is a PCI expressX16 2.0 and one is a different type
